The Seattle Aquarium's Ocean Pavilion
As they explore our new hub for conservation inspiration and action, Aquarium guests of all ages will be enthralled by a mesmerizing journey through the reef ecosystems of the Coral Triangle—a region of the Indo-Pacific that’s so rich in biodiversity that it’s been called “the Amazon of the ocean.”
As a complement to the habitat experience, guests will learn more about the depths and wonder of the ocean virtually through state-of-the-art digital storytelling. The result? A deepened understanding of how all waters, from the Salish Sea to the Coral Triangle, are connected in Earth’s one ocean—and that ocean health equals human health.
The Ocean Pavilion building itself is a testament to our commitment to sustainability: It’s designed to operate 100% fossil-fuel free and recirculate 96% of the salt water in its habitats. This important expansion of the Aquarium campus will also provide vital space to grow our species recovery program.

3,500 Extraordinary Animals And Plants
When the Ocean Pavilion opens this summer, a slice of downtown Seattle will transform into a tropical reef ecosystem, bringing our community face-to-face with thousands of amazing plants and animals: Indo-Pacific leopard sharks, spotted eagle rays, schooling fish, colorful corals, mighty mangroves and so much more. Through signage and interactive displays, Aquarium guests of all ages will discover the many ways they can make a difference for ocean health.

Helping To Restore Species Locally And Globally
The Seattle Aquarium’s species recovery program leverages our expertise in animal wellbeing, research, field conservation, ocean policy and social change to help endangered species.
With your support and together with dozens of partners, we’re currently helping to recover two important, and endangered, species: pinto abalone here at home, and Indo-Pacific leopard sharks in the Coral Triangle.

Indigenous Knowledge Shapes Design Of The Ocean Pavilion
For more than 10,000 years, Coast Salish peoples have stewarded the lands and waters of the Pacific Northwest. They continue to do so today. We honor our location in this revered space, as well as our ongoing collaboration with Coast Salish peoples and the urban Indigenous community.
This collaboration has guided the Ocean Pavilion project since its early stages—and is reflected throughout the Aquarium campus. For instance, on the public plaza adjacent to the Ocean Pavilion, visitors can marvel at a compelling installation by glass artist Daniel Joseph Friday (Lummi) that was chosen by an all-Indigenous selection panel. On the building’s public roof, they’ll discover native plantings designed with guidance from traditional ecological knowledge-keeper Valerie Segrest (Muckleshoot) and sandblasted images led by Owen Oliver (Quinault/Isleta Pueblo) of Headwater People Consulting.
An Iconic New Landmark For Our City
The centerpiece of Seattle’s revitalized waterfront, the Ocean Pavilion will demonstrate our region’s global conservation leadership to millions of people, from locals to visitors from all over the world—up to 1.2 million Aquarium guests per year. The building’s public rooftop will create a long-awaited, accessible connection between downtown’s Pike Place Market and the waterfront. And just outside the front doors is the city’s new, 20-acre Waterfront Park. Make a gift in support of the expanded Aquarium, at the heart of Seattle’s new waterfront!

The Seattle Aquarium is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization and your donation is tax-deductible within the guidelines of U.S. law. Our tax ID is 91-1189249. To claim a donation as a deduction on your U.S. taxes, please keep your email donation receipt as your official record. We’ll send it to you upon successful completion of your donation.
Are there opportunities for donor recognition?
All donors to the Seattle Aquarium’s One Ocean, One Future campaign will be recognized in the digital version of our annual report, and donors making gifts of $10 and above will be recognized on digital signage at the Ocean Pavilion.
Gifts at and above $350 qualify you for membership in one of our donor circles—which include all the benefits of an annual Seattle Aquarium membership and more. Gifts at and above $10,000 will also be recognized on a permanent installation inside the Ocean Pavilion.
